ROMAN GIRL AT A FOUNTAIN

Circa 1899.  Large and very decorative copy of the painting "Roman Girl At A Fountain". This well known painting originally by the French artist Leon Bonnat,  painted in 1875, has been copied many times. This oil on canvas copy, painted in 1899 is very well done by a very skilled hand and is much more impressive in person than in our photos. Very large in size and in a beautiful and ornate original gilded Victorian frame, it is fresh from an outstanding Brooklyn brownstone that has been featured in many magazines on Victorian interiors and on several house tours. In this painting a young, barefoot Roman girl leans over a cement fountain to take a drink of water. She is wearing rustic Italian dress and her white blouse "pops" against the dusky colors of everything else in the painting. All original painting and frame in good condition with the exception of a small damage to the canvas on the lower left bottom which can be seen in our photos. We can have the damage professionally restored included in the price or will take off $250 from the price if you wish to leave it or have it done by your own restorer. Initialed "M.M.L." and dated 1899 in the lower left corner. 55" tall x 34 1/2" wide over-all.  Price $4500.
