Royal Rudolstadt Ewer

Circa 1887. Handsome Royal Rudolstadt ewer. This shape is typical of some fine English 19th century makers and much rarer from a German porcelain manufactory. This particular pitcher has an oak leaf decorated spout and a very decorative handle that seems to turn into a stylized birds face. The base color of this piece is a softly gleaming ivory which has been decorated with muted earth tones, with the exception of the raised enamel dots which are a turquoise blue. There is also some fine outlining in gold around the earth colored bands and some other areas of gilt detail. Over-all the contrast between the red-brown bands and blue dots are very striking and unusual.  Fully marked by the well known Royal Rudolstadt porcelain manufactory. Fresh from a local Brooklyn, New York estate. Good condition with a flake on the spout and light wear to the floral decoration.  9 1/2" tall x  8 1/2" widest x 4 5/8" base diameter.  Price  $250.00
