Circa 1876.  The best oak bookcase we have ever seen. American Centennial design, two wide doors with inset panels of beveled glass with deeply cut stars that are silvered from the inside. The corners of each door have deep pierce carvings.  The crown has very three dimensional carvings of ribbons with a flower in the center and "egg & dart" trim.  There is elaborate trim finishing all parts of this piece which can be seen in the photos.  Another unusual aspect of the detail on this piece is the placement of the capitals in the center of it's flanking columns rather than at the tops.  The sides are handsome deep raised panels also in quarter sawn oak.  The original back consists of narrow planking like a wainscot .  Original adjustable shelves.  Original hardware and key.  Original glass.  All original finish in fine condition.  A true American masterpiece!   72" tall x 60" wide x 13 3/4" deep.  Price  $10,000.
