ANTIQUE Bronzes & Statuary

Circa 1860.  Tall and graceful Parian statue of "Phryne".  Phryne  was a noted courtesan in 4th Century Athens.  This Victorian statue is based on a marble sculpture that was shown in 1845 at the Paris Salon. It is very well made with nice attention to detail and depicts Phryne partially nude, her elegant robe loosely draped over only half her body.  Phryne is in very good over-all condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Unmarked, probably by one of the good English makers of the day.  11" tall x 3 5/8" base diameter.  Price $495.00
