ANTIQUE ARMOIRES,
CABINETS & etageres
Circa 1880. Dutch marquetry two door cabinet in walnut and rosewood with satin wood inlay. This piece is a rare combination of rich handsome style and versatile size and design. Two long doors each with original beveled glass over two deep drawers. Each long door is hinged to fold flat. Each drawer lock has a bell chime when the drawer is unlocked with the key, something we have never seen in a piece of furniture. Above the doors are two inset beveled mirrors. The crown is a "broken pediment" style with a center turned finial. The base is a panel with contrasting ogee molding trim and hairy carved claw front feet and ball rear feet. The sides are flat panels. The decoration consists of a fine inlay of satin wood in rosewood in a trailing ivy and flower design. There are two carved front panels with oak leaves and what looks like small pine cones. The handle for the door is Aesthetic Movement heavy cast brass fittings with a faceted glass pull. The drawer knobs are faceted glass with fancy cast back plates. Three re-moveable, deep stationary walnut shelves and original walnut paneled back. The finish is a mellow old refinish. Original working locks, door hardware, brass hinges, mirror and glass. Very good condition with minor old restorations. 92" tall x 46" wide x 23" deep. Price $5,200.
