ANTIQUE ARMOIRES,

CABINETS & etageres

Circa 1850.  Extremely fine, rosewood étagère cabinet in the manner of Meeks.  Everything about this superb piece of American Rococo furniture leads me to believe it is a product of one of the top New York City makers of the 19th century. Exceptional quality and detail throughout, all rosewood exterior with satin wood interiors, lovely design and proportions. The sides are artistically executed pierce-carvings in a flowing Rococo style and the top rail is also pierce carved with a slightly Gothic flavor.  The doors are also decorated with fine pierce carved Rococo overlay panels with Gothic arches. There is a single frieze drawer over a two door, mirrored cabinet who's doors open 180 degrees.  The condition of this beautiful piece is also exceptional and virtually all original, from the fine original finish which we have lightly re-polished, to it's original locks, hardware and shelves.  I believe the upper mirrors are also original to this piece but the door mirrors look to be replacements.  The only flaws are a small, old (half inch) triangle of replacement veneer on the front left corner and a small singed spot on the bottom of the second from top shelf.  Both original locks have been keyed and function well.  In a difficult market for antique furniture I believe this is an exceptional value for a discriminating buyer.   65" tall x 34 1/2" wide  x 19" deep.  Price $4800.
