Circa 1880. American Centennial high chest in the Federal taste.  Exceptionally large and filled with quality carving and unusual details.  The chest is made of perfectly matched mahogany veneers and fine solid mahogany.  The front is serpentine, with a heavy rope carved edge and heavily carved columns ending in detailed ball and claw feet.  The center of the chest is a large "hat-box" with a large carved panel and flanked by a pair of short drawers on each side that lock automatically when the hat-box is locked.  There are three large full drawers beneath the hat-box and one long drawer above. This fine chest retains all it's original,  delicately swirled Sandwich glass knobs set in brass in fine condition.  All the drawers and locks are in fine working condition.  This chest is part of an "assembled" set that we purchased together which includes a mirrored chest and four post bed.  A wonderful addition to any collection of fine American furniture.  Fine restored condition.  74" tall x 42 1/2" wide x 22" deep.  Price $5,750.
