Circa 1898.  Late Victorian cast iron fireplace insert. This lovely example of a hardworking, virtually indestructible piece of necessary household equipment, was meant to hold coal or wood inside a fireplace and look good doing it. Beautifully cast, with a Bombay front decorated with flowers and a shaped fleur de lei back splash. The interior grate swivels to release ashes and the entire insert is on original, heavy duty casters so it can be moved and cleaned easily. Old black paint, fine original condition. 18" tall x 12" deep x 23" wide.  Price $375.00.
