Circa 1860.  Very Large Victorian oil on canvas portrait of a young girl.  Charming in every way, this fine painting depicts a young girl leaning against a large tree.  She is holding an open book in one hand and has a dreamy expression on her face as if she has just read something that has made her thoughtful.  She is very nicely dressed but has become careless in deep thought and the front of her dress is lifted revealing her slip.  She has flowers in her hair and beautiful velvet slippers with fine bows.  The tree is on the banks of a tranquil body of water, there are several swans in the back-round and lush plants and flowers.  Painted with much detail and vivid colors by a skilled hand.  Very nicely framed in a period gilt gesso frame.  Painting and frame are in very good "as found" condition, with no damage or restorations to the painting and old restoration to the frame.  Unsigned.    46 "high x 32" wide over-all,  painting alone is 40" x 24".  Price $2900.
