Circa 1890.  Charming pair of Victorian landscape paintings. Very nicely done, oil on board, scenic paintings of a river or lake view.  In this verdant, tranquil setting, small boats can be seen gliding by banks lush with trees and plants.  In the center of each painting there is a small island also filled with trees and rocks.  Other small islands can be seen in the back round.  The light blue sky is filled with gray and white clouds.  Each painting retains it's original, ornate gilt-gesso frame and wood back. Both the paintings and the frames are in very good, "as found" condition, with a slight shrinkage in the corners of the frames.  Unsigned.   23 "high x 14" wide each over-all, paintings alone are 18 1/2" x 10".  Price $750. for the pair.
