Circa 1830. Extremely fine, early 19th century, Sterling silver, wood, glass and ivory egg cruet. Elegant and whimsical, this extraordinary set, consists of six, simply formed egg cups which stand on a round platform of ebonized mahogany, each held in place by a round ivory peg. The three round bun feet are also in ivory. The handle is a gracefully turned Sterling with a fine ring of beadwork on the base and the finial is a lovely and detailed nesting hen done in a frosted glass. The set is un-marked but tests as Sterling silver. All the pieces are in very fine original condition with only very light dimpling to the cups and one hairline age crack in one of the ivory pegs. I have lightly cleaned the set and the silver has a fine soft patina. A rare and beautiful addition to any elegant home. 7 1/2" tall x 7" diameter, each cup is 2 7/8" tall x 1 3/4" diameter.
